Marc Chagall
Marc Chagall (1887–1985) was a Russian-French modernist who painted floating lovers, fiddlers and villages in dreamlike, jewel-bright colour. Drawing on his Jewish Hasidic roots, he created a poetry all his own.
Chagall's dreamlike imagery bridged folk memory and modernism; his stained glass glows in cathedrals worldwide.
